Impact of changes in the definition of "unemployment"?

Australian Election 07 Issue : With the changes of the definition of %26quot;unemployment%26quot; over the years, is there any way to truly compare official unemployment rates under the last Labor Government with the unemployement rates under the current Coalition?

Yeah - I%26#039;ve been thinking the same.

Don%26#039;t you now have to work less part-time hours to be classified as being %26quot;employed%26quot;?

This not only has implications for the Statistics (%26quot;record levels of unemployment%26quot;), but also whether the individual qualifies for income support (the dole cuts out at a lowerlevel than in the past).

What about the levels of employment, under employment and %26quot;discouraged jobseekers%26quot;?

the impact bob is that you still need to get a job|||only if statistics capture the new classifications|||Not really no.

Reagan did something similar in the U.S. ages ago and there%26#039;s generally a note or exception of some kind in the data when it%26#039;s used in research.|||%26quot;There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.%26quot;

--Mark Twain|||All I know was that unemployment rate is the number of unemployed workers divided by the total civilian labor force, which includes both the unemployed and those with jobs (all those willing and able to work for pay). In practice, measuring the number of unemployed workers actually seeking work is notoriously difficult. There are several different methods for measuring the number of unemployed workers, each with its own biases, making comparisons between methods difficult.The history of unemployment is the history of industrialization. It was not considered an issue in rural areas, despite the %26quot;disguised unemployment%26quot; of rural laborers having little to do, especially in conditions of overpopulation.|||In the term of unemployment, The current government takes the casual worker and lumps that as being fully employed but when you get that actual statisic for true statisic it change a whole lot.

Centrlink provides data on the amount of persons that actualy recieve ( Newstart , Mature Age ,) all these are to do with the unemployment people.

And not to do with a lot of people being retrenched , as they have not yet been put into the system of being unemployed, for every job that there is a worker there .

There is a ratio of 4 to 1 that is not employed.

Under this current govenment there will be more unemployed and it will be because of the Workchoices that are being forced on them.

So there is no way to gain a true definition of the true rate of the unemployement figure only speculation on the current govenment figure.which is highly gross speculation
