Are prisons over populated to keep unemployment rates down?

If there were more people looking for work and less people in prison, how would this effect our economy?

Are prisons over populated to keep unemployment rates down?inflation rate

I think you wrong

our prisons are over populated because people they been forced to made a choice go in jail for the rest of their life

with 3 meal a day, free health care, free education etc etc

or wake up every damn morning to go to work for a slavery wage where money are never enough so you can forget your health care or your education and live your life with the hope one day you will win the lottery

now who is the assholes? the people in jail or the free people live into the real world? just think about it!!

Are prisons over populated to keep unemployment rates down?

loan

Prisons are over populated because we have not built new ones to compensate for our growing population, legal or illegal that it is.|||Prisons are overpopulated because of Drug Laws, which work to increase crime. Reform Drug Laws and prison populations will not only drop to manageable levels, but we will be able to inprison dangerous criminals longer, dropping crime rates further.

Every day, the US prison system grants earlier release to robbers, rapists and murderers in order to make room for people who got caught with an ounce of Hemp.

Instead of using prisons to cut unemployment rates, Republicans just wait for worker benefits to run out. Those folks are still out of work, but no longer officially %26quot;unemployed.%26quot;

The wars help too. Jobs held by Guardsmen and reservists have to be filled when their units are called up. And extended deployments keep those jobs available. Of course, the Reservists are out of work when their deployments end, but that%26#039;s how Republicans %26quot;Support the Troops.%26quot;|||how%26#039;s the sociology class coming along...|||The rate of innocent people being put in prison, is probally less than 0.00001%.

IE: less than one for every 100,000 prisoners.

It just doesn%26#039;t happen very often.

So prisons are over crowed, because people just refuse to stop breaking the law.

Just look at all the people who think it%26#039;s ok to download music off the internet without paying for it.

Even though it is stealing, they seem to think it is somehow ok, because everyone does it.

As to the poster who somehow thinks that only those currently collecting unemployment benefits, are counted in the unemployment rate calculations.

Maybe you should actually go to the Labor Department webpage, and read how the unemployment rate is calculated.

I%26#039;ll even post the link for ya below.

I%26#039;m continuely amazed at how many people wrongly think that people who no longer collect unemployment benefits, are not counted in the unemployment rate.

It is probally the same web page, that wrongly tells people that congressmen do not pay SS tax%26#039;s or that congressmen retire with full retirement pay after serving just one term.|||Nope, they keep convicted criminals off the street so they don%26#039;t commit more crimes.
