Why did 1969 have the lowest unemployment rate in US history?

It didn%26#039;t. The lowest unemployment rate was 1.2% in 1944 and the government was almost begging women to go to work.

Just off the top of my head I would say that a lot of it had to do with the Vietnam War. That war took 100%26#039;s of thousands of young men out of the workforce and put them into the armed forces. At the same time the manufacturers of war related materials (bullets, guns, bombs, uniforms, etc., etc.) had to dramatically increase their production and hire thousands of people to meet their quotas. Remember, that the only way a healthy young man could stay out of the draft was to stay in college which also took him out of the workforce.
